  • Bartram's Garden

    • Founded in 1728, this is USA's oldest surviving botanic garden

  • First Bank of the US

    • (For any 'Hamilton' fans) Thanks to Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of Treasury, the Bank of the United States opened in 1791

  • ​Eastern State Penitentiary

    • Founded in 1829, this was the world's first true "penitentiary." Fun fact: Al Capone was a prisoner here

  • Philadelphia Zoo

    • Also known as America's first zoo (Chartered in 1859, but opening was delayed due to the Civil War)

  • Wanamaker building (is now known as Macy's Center City)

    • Opened in 1861, John Wanamaker Department Store was one of the first department stores in the USA. Fun fact: this is where "the customer is always right" phrase comes from

    • The world's largest pipe organ is within this building with a free 45 min. concert M-Sat at 12pm and 5:30pm (no Sunday show)

  • The Navy Yard​

    • This is the birthplace of naval aviation (1940s/WWII). Fun fact: Philly is the birthplace of the U.S. Navy
